Siena makes the most sensible base from which
explore central Tuscany. It is a good idea to lodge Siena
hotels. We suggest to spend two or three days getting
to know Siena, exploring its medieval streets and neighborhoods
as well as major sites like the Campo, Palazzo Pubblico, Duomo
and surrounding museums.
Practically unchanged since medieval times, Siena
is laid out in a "Y" over the slopes of several
hills, dividing the city into "terzi" (thirds).
If you come by car, you'll be better off leaving it on one
of the parking lots around the perimeter of Siena town, as
car access is always difficult or just plain denied in certain
parts of the Siena city center.
